Petite size vs XS: what is the difference?

An XS garment can still have standard-length sleeves, legs and torso. A petite garment changes the vertical proportions and may be available in several sizes, from petite XXS to petite XL.

Why the distinction matters

If trousers fit at the waist but bunch at the ankle or the knee sits too low, the issue may be proportion rather than size.

What to check

Compare inseam and rise first. For tops and dresses, check sleeve length, shoulder width and waist placement.
